Adding The Illusion Of Height To A Room

There are numerous ways in which you can add the illusion of height to a room. It is often a good idea to incorporate several of these suggestions into one room to gain the maximum decorative benefit.
Stripes
Vertical stripes will add visual height to a room. Choosing wallpaper with vertical stripes is one option. You could actually paint vertical stripes on each wall of the room or on just one accent wall. Choosing striped fabric for your floor to ceiling window treatments will also add visual height to the room.
Wall art
Mirrors are a great way to add visual spaciousness to a room. One long, narrow mirror would lead the eyes upward. Or, you could hang several small mirrors in uniquely interesting frames in a vertical arrangement on one wall. A long, slender tapestry would also provide the illusion of height in a room.
Accessories
Placing a tall floral arrangement on an accent table will add the illusion of height. Floor lamps and sconces are also ideal accessories that tend to make your eyes travel upward. Consider the addition of an attractive tall plant, real or artificial, as a way to draw visitor’s eyes upward in the room.
